Ripleys Believe It Or Not St Augustine - Marjorie Rawlings

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings is perhaps best known for her book, The Yearling, however she is a unique part of St. Augustine’s history. Married to hotelier Norton Baskin, Rawlings and her husband made their home in a 19 room St. Augustine castle which they named the Warden Hotel. The Warden Hotel entertained guests throughout St. Augustine’s flourishing tourism boom, and today the castle is now the home to Florida’s first Ripley’s Believe it Or Not Museum, one of St. Augustine’s best attractions. In fact, during Ripley’s many travels he stayed in the Warden Hotel during its heyday.

The Ripley’s museum in St. Augustine is the oldest “odditorium” in the country and Ripley’s first museum. Robert Ripley was known as an international traveler who had a strong liking for strange oddities and cultural facts. Traveling to over 198 countries over 40 years, Ripley’s notoriety grew and his museums are now open throughout the United States and the world.

When in St. Augustine, visit this attraction for a mind blowing experience. The room dedicated to Marjorie Rawlings in our St. Augustine bed and breakfast offers guests comfortable lodging with its very own private courtyard.
