St. Augustine is a city that hosts several great festivals and events throughout the year. These festivals are great ways to learn more about the city and enjoy St. Augustine’s many historic locations. At the Inn on Charlotte, we’re just a short distance away from all of the exciting activities in St. Augustine. Below we’ve detailed a bit of information on the festivals that typically take place in St. Augustine.
The Concerts on the Plaza’s 2008 season starts the first Thursday night in April and continues with Thursday night concerts through the summer months. Each Thursday night concert takes place in downtown St. Augustine, free of charge, and features a wide variety of different types of music. Special holiday concerts are given on Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you enjoy music, downtown St. Augustine is the place to be on Thursday nights in the summer months.
During the holiday period, one of St. Augustine’s most famous festivals, the St. Augustine Nights of Lights, takes place. More than two million white lights help create a truly magical holiday atmosphere that traces its origins back to the Spanish tradition of displaying a lighted white candle during the Christmas period. Throughout the Nights of Lights festival, tours of many of the Old City’s historical buildings are given and storytellers dress in period clothing. Lasting through the holidays until January 31st, the St. Augustine Nights of Lights festival is one of the most beautiful times to vacation in St. Augustine.
If you enjoy folk music, you must experience the Gamble Rogers Festival that takes place in St. Augustine. This three day celebration during the month of May features several famous folk artists each year. It pays homage to legendary singer/songwriter Gamble Rogers who tragically passed away in 1991 while trying to save a drowning tourist at Flagler Beach. Spend time at Gamblefest and you’ll enjoy some of the best folk music in St. Augustine.
