Avid golfers simply must visit the World Golf Village which is the home of the World Golf Hall of Fame and two legendary courses, the Slammer and the Squire course and the King and Bear course. The Slammer and the Squire features gorgeous sights of the natural wetlands and hammock forests found in the region. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus paired to create the famed course, the King and the Bear at the World Golf Village, and golfers enjoy the natural beauty of the course with its design that incorporates 200-year-old live oaks.
St. John’s County golf course is a 27 hole, public course that has been repeatedly named the “best public course in Florida” by Golf Digest. This course also has a nice driving range. The semi-private course at St. Augustine Shores Golf Club is a nice place to play as well and features the only lit driving range in the region, which is open from sunrise to 9:00 pm daily. The other semi-private course in the Old City is the Cimarrone golf course which features water hazards on each hole, so be prepared.
Private clubs such as Marsh Creek Golf Course and the Golf Club at South Hampton offer complex greens layouts and a rare look at some of St. Augustine’s many protected wildlife habitats that border the course.
Royal St. Augustine Golf Club is St. Augustine’s newest golf course open to the public and features superb landscaping and a few challenging holes. In addition to the many St. Augustine golf courses found in St. John’s County, there are several great places to enjoy golf near the Old City. Visit St. Augustine for your next Florida golf vacation.
